Pray against spiritual arrogance

Women’s Prayer Team - Week 14

With Easter on the forefront of our minds the past several days, I can't help but reminisce on Easters past. Memories of my sister and I's matching outfits flood in, family photos in front of my childhood church come out. One of my favorite Easter memories was in 2017 when I was able to travel to spend Easter with family friends in Stockholm, Sweden. Although I didn't understand more than a few words of the service I attended, I will never forget the stained glass windows and the time set aside to honor the sacrifice of King Jesus.

PRAYER TIP #14 – Pray against Spiritual Arrogance

My prayer this Easter season has been that I would have humility and an awe of all that Easter means. Praying that I would not grow numb to the miracle of Jesus Christ, His death on the cross, and the Resurrection of our Lord and Savior. The moment we think we have it all figured out and have nothing left to learn is the moment we grow spiritually arrogant. God's Word is abundantly clear that He opposes the proud. In Proverbs, Solomon writes: "Everyone proud in heart is an abomination to the Lord; Though they join forces, none will go unpunished. In mercy and truth, Atonement is provided for iniquity; And by the fear of the Lord, one departs from evil." The spiritual antidote to the spiritual poison of arrogance we see here is not just humility, but a fear of the Lord.

Having countless memories of Easter is such a great blessing, but can also allow repetitiveness to creep in. May our sweet earthly memories stir our affections for the One who gave His life for us! May we always ask Him to help us and give us a hunger and a thirst to hear from Him during such a season as this. May we have a fear of the Lord that produces faith and gives us departure from evil! Even as we are now on the tail end of the Easter season, may we live in daily remembrance of the Remarkable Day that Jesus changed everything, forever!

Proverbs 11:2

When pride comes, then comes shame;

But with the humble is wisdom.

Prayer Points:

  • Lord, I thank You for Jesus.

  • Lord, I thank You that I may have everlasting life through His atonement.

  • Lord, I pray I would never grow numb to the Power of the Cross.

  • Lord, I pray You would allow me to grow a deeper desire to hear from You, especially during the Easter season.

  • Lord, help me to see where I may be spiritually arrogant.

  • Lord, I thank You for Your mercy even when we are proud.

Suggested Prayer - Pray these words in your heart or out loud:

Father,

I thank You for Who You are. I thank You for Your Son. I pray for a heart that sees my need for Jesus. Oh God, I pray for a humble heart that wants more and more of You. May I see with a freshness how good You are. Jesus, I thank You that You paid it all for us. All to You we owe. I thank You for Your grace, even when we do not deserve it. Give us eyes to see and ears to hear You with. Thank You for the joys of Easter, it is all about You.

In Jesus' Name I pray, Amen.

Peace,

Katie Gutierrez
