Depend on him

2025 is a huge year for me because I, Lord willing, will be delivering my first child this May! As excited as I am to welcome a sweet baby boy into this world, I have also found myself working through a lot of anxiety. There is a lot of nerves that come with giving birth and then taking care of a baby! I am sure even if you are not giving birth this year, there is still something that this year holds that maybe you aren't exactly looking forward to.

My dear friend Hannah Staubs is known for having a word of the year, and she has encouraged me to do the same for 2025! I have prayed about what this word could be, and I believe the Lord has given me the word, "Dependence." There are a lot of unknowns I have going into 2025, but the greatest truth is that I can truly always depend on Jesus. I can depend on His Word, the Holy Spirit, His counsel, His direction, and so on. Here are a couple of verses that back up this truth!

Proverbs 3:5-6

"Trust in the Lord with all your heart,

and do not lean on your own understanding.

In all your ways acknowledge him,

and he will make straight your paths."

Psalm 18:2

"The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer,

my God, my rock, in whom I take refuge,

my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold."

Philippians 4:7

"And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus."

I love John 16 and what Jesus tells His disciples. Jesus had just finished washing His disciples feet and predicting the betrayal of Judas. The disciples were commissioned and instructed by Jesus, and knew Jesus loved them. They walked with Him while He was alive, and they saw Him die on the Cross. They saw Him after He had risen again, and all this time Jesus was creating an expectation in them. Jesus says in John 16:7, "Nevertheless, I tell you the truth: it is to your advantage that I go away, for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you. But if I go, I will send him to you." Jesus is telling His disciples that it is for their advantage that He leaves, so that He may send the Holy Spirit. If you are a born again Christian, that same Holy Spirit is within you. Jesus is with us ALWAYS! The gentle, kind, and loving Savior is near to you at all times, and will be your comforter.

Prayer Tip #41 - Depend on Jesus through everything.

We can depend on Jesus because He is always with us, even through the unknown. We do not have to fear tomorrow because we know who has ultimate control over it.

I hope this encourages you as we enter the new year! How exciting to think about all that the Lord had in store for you this year!

Prayer Points-

  • Heavenly Father, thank You for being my rock and fortress.

  • Lord, I praise You for being near to me at all times.

  • Lord, guide me through this next year, and help me to rely solely on You and Your Word.

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for another year! I am expectant of all that You are going to do through my life this year. I pray that You help me daily to depend solely on You and Your Word. You are the Giver of all things good, and I am so thankful for Your faithfulness. Please bless me and my family as we enter into this new year.

In Jesus’ name,

Amen
