Cultivate a Heart of Gratitude

Updated: Jul 5

My husband, Casey, and I have had a busy season, especially these last few weeks! We moved into our new house, and we just had a baby shower on Sunday. So, with that in mind comes getting the house and everything ready before baby girl decides to make her entrance. With all of that being said, it has been a very stressful and overwhelming time as I am only 5 weeks away from my due date. I don't know about you, but when I am stressed, I am definitely not the most enjoyable person to be around. I can also find myself not enjoying the moment because I let the stress control me and my emotions.

However, this past Sunday at our baby shower, Casey and I were overwhelmed with joy by the amount of people that showed up and blessed us beyond measure! This week has been a great reminder of gratitude for us both - even in this busy and stressful season!

"In everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you."

1 Thessalonians 5:18

"Oh, give thanks to the Lord, for He is good! For His mercy endures forever."

Psalm 106:1

“A spirit of thankfulness is one of the most distinctive marks of a

Christian whose heart is attuned to the Lord.” – Billy Graham

I have found that when I have a heart of gratitude, it is hard for me to not enjoy moments in life. When I am reminded of the Lord's faithfulness in my life, I can't help but be thankful! Gratitude generates generosity - I am more generous and genuine when my heart is filled with gratitude!

My challenge for you is to write 5 things you are grateful for each day! They can be small or big things in your life! I was amazed at how being grateful has changed the trajectory of my week this week! I pray this does the same for you!

Prayer points:

  • Thank You, Father, for everything You have blessed me with.

  • Thank You for sending Your Son to pay the ultimate sacrifice.

  • Help me to be reminded of the many blessings that have been poured upon me.

  • Help me to have a heart of gratitude this week.

Father,

Thank You for the gift of life and for the breath in my lungs! I ask that You help direct my life to its fullest potential and purpose of serving You! Thank You for the Gospel and for sending Your Son on my behalf! I pray that I am reminded of the Gospel daily and that I never become numb to it! Father, I ask that You help me to have a heart of gratitude! May I be reminded daily of the many things I have to be grateful for! I love You, Lord!

In Jesus' Name, Amen.

With Love,

Brooke Hartley
