Believe the Truth

Updated: Jul 5

Women's Prayer Team - Week 36

Before I begin this prayer team email, I want to ask you a question, and I want you to ponder on it: What lie are you believing? This question is convicting because there are so many lies that we believe on a daily basis.

I am reading a book that has opened my eyes to see our three enemies in a new way, and how easy it is for us to believe the lies that the enemy feeds us. It starts with the devil, the father of lies. The devil feeds us these lies and we believe them. Then, our flesh desires these lies. Lastly, the world normalizes these lies. This is what spiritual warfare is. It is a daily fight.

So, how can we fight this? The opposite of lies is truth. It is not a coincidence that Jesus says the devil is the father of lies in John 8:44 and describes Himself as the Truth in John 14:6. Jesus is the Truth! In moments where lies may creep in, go to Jesus!

PRAYER TIP #36: Pray for discernment to believe the truth over lies.

Jesus said to him, "I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life.

No one comes to the Father except through Me."

John 14:6

Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, "If you abide in My word,

you are My disciples indeed. And you shall know the truth,

and the truth shall make you free."

John 8:31-32

I love that Jesus gives us a practical sense of overcoming lies: by abiding in the Word of God. This is how we will know the truth, and the truth will set us free. When we saturate ourselves in the Word, we saturate ourselves with the truth! It is then harder for us to believe the lies when we are saturated with the Word of God!

In another practical sense, memorizing Scripture has been very beneficial for me! One lie that I constantly believe is the lie that it is okay to react out of anger. It starts with my mind. I believe the thought and lie, which the devil feeds me, that it is okay for anger to be my first reaction. Then, my flesh desires to be angry when something doesn't go my way. Lastly, the world normalizes that it is okay to react out of emotion and be angry. To fight this lie that I often believe, I have memorized Scripture to help me when I struggle with this! The Scripture that I have memorized to combat this lie is:

Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, clamor, and evil speaking be put away from you, with all malice. And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another,

even as God in Christ forgave you.

Ephesians 4:31-32

So then, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath; for the wrath of man does not produce the righteousness of God.

James 1:19

I encourage you to answer the question of, "What lie are you believing?" But, not only that! I encourage you to memorize Scripture to combat the lie that you are believing! We fight the lies with the truth, which is Jesus and the Word!

Prayer Points:

● Father, help me to abide in You and Your Word!

● God, I ask that You help me to believe the truth over lies that I am being fed!

● Lord, I ask that You help me to have a love for You and Your Word daily!

● God, help me to memorize Scripture to combat the lie that I am believing!

Father,

Thank You for Your Word and the beautiful gift it is to us! Thank You for the truth that is found in the Word! Father, I ask that You help me to abide in You and Your Word daily! Give me a love for You and Your Word to where I am saturated with it! God, help me to combat the lies that I am believing with Your truth! I can only do it by Your power and strength! Thank You for Your goodness and truth that You reveal to us in Your Word!

In Jesus’ Name, Amen!

With Love,

Brooke Hartley
